Approaches/ Modalities

Healing Relational Trauma. Restoring Trust. Rebuilding Lives.

Our Therapeutic Approach

Evidence-based therapy for healing relationships, trauma, and loss.

At Mzima Counselling, therapy is not a one-size-fits-all process. Every person and every relationship carries a unique story, history, and set of challenges.

My approach is integrative and trauma-informed, drawing from several evidence-based therapeutic models to support deep emotional healing, relational repair, and personal growth.

Rather than applying a single method, I thoughtfully integrate different approaches depending on your needs, goals, and the issues you are facing.

These approaches help clients heal from:

  • Betrayal and infidelity
  • Emotional disconnection in relationships
  • Relational and developmental trauma
  • Grief and significant life transitions
  • Anxiety, emotional overwhelm, and identity struggles
  • Below are some of the primary approaches used in my work.

Core Therapeutic Modalities

EFT for Couples

Emotionally Focused Therapy helps partners understand emotional patterns, identify attachment needs, and rebuild a secure emotional bond.

Gottman Method

Research-based tools for navigating betrayal and conflict. Process the impact of infidelity and rebuild trust through healthier interaction.

EMDR Therapy

A powerful trauma therapy that helps the brain process stuck, distressing memories, reducing emotional intensity around painful experiences.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Understanding the different “parts” within—wounded parts, inner critics, and protectors—to develop compassion and emotional balance.

Somatic Reprocessing

Reconnecting with bodily awareness to regulate the nervous system and release stored tension related to trauma or chronic stress.

Additional Integrated Approaches

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
(CBT) Helps identify and shift unhelpful thinking patterns that contribute to anxiety, stress, and emotional distress.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy
(DBT) Teaches practical skills for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and improving interpersonal relationships.
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy
(SFBT) Focuses on strengths and practical solutions to help clients move toward their goals more effectively.
Narrative Therapy

Helps individuals explore the stories they hold about themselves and develop new, more empowering perspectives.
Motivational Interviewing
Supports clients in resolving ambivalence and strengthening motivation for meaningful change.

Faith-Based Counselling

Mzima Counselling offers faith-informed therapy for clients who desire to integrate their Christian faith into the healing process. Therapy can incorporate spiritual beliefs and faith resources as part of the healing process.

This may include:

  • Exploring faith in the context of trauma, betrayal, or grief
  • Addressing spiritual disconnection or crisis after loss
  • Integrating values, prayer, or scripture when appropriate and requested
  • Supporting meaning-making without spiritual bypassing

Faith is treated as a resource, not a requirement.

If you’re feeling stuck, disconnected, or unsure where to begin, support is available.
